Maia
Μαῖα
The eldest of the Pleiades, who lived alone in a cave.
Eldest of Atlas's seven daughters, she kept quietly to her cave in Arcadia.
With Zeus she bore Hermes — a child who went out to steal cattle on the very day he was born.
From the Roman goddess of the same name, Maia, comes the month of May.
