Numitor

The king who grew old dethroned, restored by grandsons raised on a wolf's milk.

He was the rightful king of Alba Longa, but his brother Amulius seized the throne. His sons were murdered, and his daughter Rhea Silvia was made a priestess so she could bear no children.

The reunion came when his abandoned grandsons, Romulus and Remus, were dragged before him over a brawl with bandits. Livy set down the scene of the old king tracing the boys' age and history, closing in on the truth.

The brothers killed Amulius and restored their grandfather — then left to found a city of their own. That city is Rome. They gave back the old throne and built a new one.
