Semele
Σεμέλη
The mother of Dionysus, burned to death by the sight of Zeus's true form.
Hera, disguised as an old woman, coaxed her: "If he is really Zeus, make him show you his true form."
Zeus, having already sworn to grant her anything, could not refuse — and the blaze of his lightning burned Semele away.
Zeus took the unborn child from her womb and sewed it into his own thigh. That child was Dionysus.
