bacchanal
wild drunken revel
Today this word meansA riotous session of drinking and carousing.
From the Bacchanalia, the festival of Bacchus, the Roman name of Dionysus.
In 186 BC the Roman senate cracked down on the festival wholesale — too disorderly, was the charge.
