Electra complex
a daughter's fixation
Today this word meansThe idea that a daughter feels attachment to her father and rivalry with her mother.
Jung coined the name in 1913 after Electra, who urged her brother to kill their mother in revenge for their father.
It was proposed as the female counterpart of the Oedipus complex.
Worth noting
No relation to electric. That word comes from Greek ēlektron, amber — rubbing amber makes static. Freud himself disliked the term.
