Jupiter's four great moons
Today this word meansThe four large moons of Jupiter that Galileo discovered in 1610.
All four names are loves of Zeus (Jupiter) — Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto.
Moons circling Jupiter, so they were peopled with the figures at Zeus's side.
Simon Marius proposed the names, and Kepler lent a hand to the idea.
Worth noting
Only Ganymede is male. The other three are women, which is why the set is sometimes called "the lovers of Zeus."
