Adonis
Ἄδωνις
The youth Aphrodite and Persephone fought to keep for themselves.
Zeus brokered a deal: part of the year above ground, part below — the same pattern as the Persephone story.
He was gored to death by a boar while hunting, and from his blood the anemone bloomed.
To this day, a strikingly handsome man is called an Adonis.

He appears in Greek myth, but his name is not Greek. It comes from the Semitic root adon, meaning "lord" — a trace of a West Asian cult that crossed over into Greece.
