Agenor
Ἀγήνωρ
The Phoenician king who sent his sons out to bring back his abducted daughter Europa.
He was king of Phoenicia. When his daughter Europa was carried off by Zeus in the form of a bull, he commanded his sons: do not come home until you find your sister.
No one found Europa, so no one went home. Cadmus founded Thebes; Cilix left his name on Cilicia, Phoenix on Phoenicia.
Where one daughter was lost, cities sprang up. The story that the Greeks received their alphabet from Phoenicia also rides on this journey of Cadmus.
