Amyclas
Ἀμύκλας
The Spartan king who left his own name on a city and his son's name on a festival.
Son of Lacedaemon and Sparta, he left his name on Amyclae, a city beside Sparta.
His son Hyacinthus was loved by Apollo and died struck by a discus.
The Hyacinthia festival honoring him was held every year at Amyclae. The city inherited the father's name, the festival the son's.
