Calypso
Καλυψώ
The nymph who kept Odysseus on her island for seven years.
Her name means "she who conceals." Her island, Ogygia, was as good as erased from the world.
She offered him eternal youth and immortality, but Odysseus said he would return to a wife who would grow old and die.
At the gods' command she finally let him go — a story where the will to return proved stronger than the power to hold.
