Cephissus
Κηφισός
The Boeotian river god who wrapped a nymph in his current and fathered Narcissus.
He is the god of a river flowing through Boeotia.
Ovid writes that Cephissus enfolded the nymph Liriope in his winding waters, and so Narcissus was born.
A child born of water dies transfixed by his own reflection in water — in this myth, having a river for a father is foreshadowing.
