Chronos

Χρόνος

Flowing time imagined as a god — not the same as the Titan Cronus.

He appears as a primordial force in the creation stories of the Orphic tradition.

Absent from Hesiod's mainstream genealogy, he has little presence within the myths themselves.

Yet his name carries the greatest weight of all — chronology, chronic, and synchronize all descend from it.

Commonly confused

The Titan who swallowed his children is Kronos (Κρόνος); this is Chronos (Χρόνος). The old man with a scythe as the emblem of time — Father Time — is the result of the two being merged after the Renaissance.
