Creon

Κρέων

The Theban king who put the law of the state first — and lost his whole family.

Brother of Jocasta, he was the one who offered the throne to whoever could rid Thebes of the Sphinx.

He forbade the burial of his nephew Polynices and imprisoned Antigone — by his logic, a state that honors traitors cannot stand.

Warned by Tiresias, he relented at last and hurried to undo it — but his son and his wife were already dead.
