Dioscuri
Διόσκουροι
Twin brothers — one mortal, one deathless.
They hatched together from Leda's egg, but only Polydeuces (Pollux) carried the blood of Zeus and could not die.
When his brother fell, Pollux begged to share his immortality — and the two now alternate, day by day, between earth and heaven.
As patrons of sailors, they were seen in the blue fire that flickers at a mast-tip in a storm: a sign that the twins had come.
