Janus
Roman 야누스 (Janus)
The two-faced god who looks forward and backward — Rome's own.
He has no Greek counterpart. He is one of the few gods Rome raised on its own soil.
He governed doors, passages, and every beginning — whichever god a sacrifice was for, his name was invoked first.
The doors of his temple in the Roman Forum stood open in wartime and closed only in peace. They were almost never closed.
