Meleager
Μελέαγρος
The hero who perished with the log his mother burned.
At his birth, the Fates declared he would die when the log on the hearth burned out — so his mother snatched it from the fire and hid it.
After killing the Calydonian boar, he tried to give the hide to Atalanta, quarreled with his uncles, and killed them.
His mother, having lost her brothers, put the hidden log back into the fire.
