Atalanta
Ἀταλάντη
The huntress who vowed to marry only the man who could outrun her.
Abandoned as a baby, she was suckled by a bear — and drew first blood in the Calydonian boar hunt.
She challenged suitors to a footrace and killed those who lost. Hippomenes stopped her by rolling three golden apples given by Aphrodite.
Later the two angered the goddess and were turned into lions.
