Peneus
Πηνειός
The river god who heard his hunted daughter's cry and turned her into the laurel.
He is the god of the river that flows through the Vale of Tempe in Thessaly.
When Daphne fled from Apollo and cried "Father, take this form from me," it was Peneus she called to.
On his banks her feet became roots and her arms became branches. So ends the first love story of Ovid's Metamorphoses.
