Προκρούστης

The bandit who forced travelers to fit the length of his bed.

He would offer travelers a bed for the night, then seize them — cutting them down if they were too long, stretching them out if too short.

His very name means "the one who stretches out."

Theseus, on his road to Athens, dealt with him by exactly the same method.
