Theseus

Θησεύς

The king of Athens who escaped the labyrinth with a ball of thread.

He volunteered to join the tribute Athens sent to Crete, and killed the Minotaur.

Unspooling the thread Ariadne gave him as he went in, he retraced his way out of the labyrinth.

On the way home he forgot his promise to hoist white sails; seeing the black sails, his father Aegeus threw himself into the sea. That sea is the Aegean.
