Pegasus

the winged horse; the Great Square

Today this word meansThe great square at the center of the autumn night sky.

Named for Pegasus, the winged horse that sprang from Medusa's blood.

The constellation shows only the upper half of his body. He has been legless from the earliest star charts.

One of the square's four stars, Alpheratz, actually belongs to Andromeda — the two constellations shared it until the boundaries were fixed in 1928 and it was assigned to Andromeda.
