A flying horse sprung from the blood of Medusa.
He leapt out at the spot where Perseus severed Medusa's head.
Bellerophon rode him to slay the Chimera, but fell when he tried to fly up to Olympus itself.
Where his hoof struck, the Muses' spring Hippocrene welled up — which is why he became a symbol of inspiration.
