A daughter of Helios, she worked herbs and spells on the island of Aeaea.
She turned Odysseus's crew into pigs, but her magic failed against Odysseus himself, who carried an antidote herb from Hermes.
She then kept him as her guest for a year, and when he left, she even told him the way to the underworld.
