Echidna

Woman above the waist, serpent below.
With Typhon she bore Cerberus, the Hydra, the Chimera, and the Sphinx. Most of the famous monsters are this couple's children.
Hesiod describes her as one who "neither dies nor grows old."
She lived hidden in a cave, they say, devouring whatever passed by.
