Erebus
Ἔρεβος
The deep darkness no light has ever touched.
He emerged from Chaos alongside Nyx. If Night is the darkness of the sky, Erebus is the darkness beneath the earth.
With Nyx he fathered Aether (the bright upper sky) and Hemera (Day) — a genealogy in which light is born from darkness.
The first stretch of the descent into the underworld is sometimes called by his name.
