Ithaca
Ἰθάκη
The small island Odysseus spent ten years trying to reach.
It is a rocky island with no rich soil and no wide plains. Odysseus himself calls it "rough, but a good nurse of young men."
This is the place he chose over Calypso's offer of immortality and eternal youth.
Because of that choice, Ithaca became a byword for "home."
