Melpomene
Μελπομένη
The Muse who holds the weeping mask.
At first she simply governed song, but over time she settled into the role of Muse of tragedy.
She is depicted with the down-turned tragic mask and a club.
The weeping and laughing masks hung side by side at theater entrances are Melpomene and Thalia.
