Muses
Μοῦσαι
The nine sisters who breathe song into poets.
They are the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, goddess of memory.
Each has her own domain: epic poetry (Calliope), history (Clio), tragedy (Melpomene), astronomy (Urania), and more.
The Iliad and the Odyssey both open with a line asking the Muse to sing.
A place dedicated to them was called a Mouseion — the source of both museum and music.
