Midas

Μίδας

The king who wished for everything he touched to become gold.

As a reward for caring for Dionysus's old teacher, he was granted one wish — and asked that everything he touched turn to gold.

Food and water turned to gold too, and he nearly starved. In some versions, even his daughter is transformed.

He washed the power away in a river. Later, for saying Pan's pipes beat Apollo's music, he was given donkey's ears.
