Nemesis

The goddess who puts excess back in its place.
Her name means "she who deals out portions." Rather than punishing wrongdoing, she trims excessive fortune and pride to restore the balance.
It was Nemesis who led Narcissus — who mocked all who loved him — to the water's edge.
The English sense of nemesis as an "arch-enemy" comes from this role of restoring balance.
