The centaur whose death brought down Heracles.
He worked as a river ferryman, and tried to violate Heracles' wife Deianira.
Dying from an arrow tipped with the Hydra's venom, he lied: keep my blood, and it will preserve your husband's love.
Years later Deianira smeared that blood on a robe — and when Heracles put it on, his flesh burned until he mounted his own pyre.
