Philoctetes
Φιλοκτήτης
The bowman of Heracles, marooned on an island for the stench of his wound.
For lighting Heracles' funeral pyre, he inherited the hero's bow.
On the way to Troy he was bitten by a snake, and the smell of the wound that would not heal got him abandoned on Lemnos, where he lived alone for ten years.
When an oracle declared that Troy could not fall without that bow, the Greeks came back for him. It is a story of the abandoners returning in need.
