Plutus
Πλοῦτος
The god who hands out riches while blind.
A son of Demeter, he is a god shaped by an age when grain itself was wealth.
In Aristophanes' comedy Plutus he is blind — the joke being that this is why wealth goes to just anyone.
In the play, restoring his sight turns the world upside down: suddenly only the good start getting rich.

Commonly confused
He is a different god from Pluto (Hades), king of the underworld. But because wealth was felt to come from under the earth, the two were often conflated even in antiquity.
