Sinon

Σίνων

The Greek soldier who let himself be captured to get the Trojan Horse inside the walls.

When the Greeks pulled their ships back in a feigned retreat, he stayed behind on the beach alone and let himself be taken.

Weeping, he claimed he had fled because the Greeks meant to sacrifice him — and whispered that the horse was an offering to Athena, and that bringing it inside would make Troy invincible.

The night the Trojans breached their own wall to bring the horse in, he opened its hatch and lit the beacon that summoned the fleet.

This story is not in Homer. His name survives from the Epic Cycle (the Little Iliad), and the definitive version was made by Book 2 of the Aeneid.
