Syrinx
Σύριγξ
A water nymph who became a reed to escape Pan.
She was a follower of Artemis, sworn never to marry.
When Pan chased her, she begged her sisters at the riverbank and was transformed into reeds.
All Pan caught was a handful of reeds — and as the wind passed through them, they sang. He cut and bound those reeds, and that is the panpipe.
