Atreus
Ἀτρεύς
The king of Mycenae who fed his brother his own children.
Feuding with his brother Thyestes over the throne, he staged a feast of reconciliation — and served Thyestes his own sons, cooked.
When Thyestes learned the truth, his curse followed the family for three generations, down through Agamemnon and Orestes.
In Greek tragedy, "the house of Atreus" is shorthand for ruin passed down through blood.
