Clytemnestra

Κλυταιμνήστρα

The queen who killed her husband the night he returned after ten years.

It began when Agamemnon sacrificed their daughter Iphigenia to get his fleet under sail.

Through the ten years of his absence she ruled Mycenae with Aegisthus — and killed him in his bath on the day of his triumphant return.

Aeschylus does not paint her as a simple villain — he lets her speak as a mother avenging her lost child.
