Iphigenia

Ἰφιγένεια

The daughter her father sacrificed to raise a wind for his fleet.

When the winds died at the port of Aulis, an oracle declared that Artemis could only be appeased by sacrificing the daughter.

She was summoned under the pretext of a wedding and placed on the altar. That single choice brings down the whole house of Agamemnon.

In Euripides' version, Artemis swaps her for a deer at the last moment and saves her.
