Erinyes / Furies
Ἐρινύες · Roman 푸리아이 (Furiae)
Three goddesses who hunt down anyone who harms their own kin.
Alecto, Tisiphone, Megaera. They never let go of a mother-killer until they have driven him mad.
People feared even to speak their name, calling them instead "the Kindly Ones" — the Eumenides.
In Aeschylus's Eumenides, their private vengeance is transformed into a trial before an Athenian court — a story about the very moment revenge becomes law.
