Mycenae
Μυκῆναι
The citadel of Agamemnon and his cursed house.
Homer called it "Mycenae rich in gold."
Tradition says Perseus founded it; later it passed to the house of Atreus, descendants of Pelops.
Its massive walls so awed later Greeks that they decided no human could have built them — they must be the work of the Cyclopes.
